It was by far not easy for the director Ursula Meier and the producer Denis Freyd to find the main set location of the film. They sought a motorway which extends as far as the eye can see in a calm and desert countryside, with a house at the edge, inhabited by a family completely cut off from the rest of the world. After fruitless searches in France and in various countries, SOFILM managed to close for several months a very wide road in Southern Bulgaria, near the city of Yambol. Several miles of this road were converted into a highway for the film needs. The main set – the house itself – was built on the spot and a fleet of 300 vehicles was mobilised.
